To find the best outdoor flood light options, we looked at some of the best brands available. We gathered a lot of information on floodlights of varying designs, qualities, features, and functionality.

This search brought up companies like Ring, whose expertise spreads beyond just cameras! We were surprised to find they also offered a great flood light with a camera. 

There were other great brands such as LUTEC, Lithonia, and Charon,  all offering great flood lights for different purposes.

By observing these brands, and noting what makes for a great flood light, we were able to create a criteria for good flood lights to meet. This same criteria was used to narrow down the best flood lights available for purchase. 

Many factors play into what makes a product great. For the sake of simplicity, this review will focus on quality, longevity, and effectiveness.

Quality

Sporting a metal frame and seeming to be durable, this floodlight offers good quality. We also noticed that the washer to keep water out of the light sockets is silicone. This is great as opposed to cardboard, or cheaper material some brands use.

But, we did notice during setup, that this silicone insert was a tad too small sometimes. While this can be fixed with a quick trip to the hardware store, we did find this to be inconvenient, as waterproofing an outdoor light is vital.

Longevity

This was another light that didn’t fizzle out like some competitors. Even after months with different periods of extended use this light still glowed strong.

So, what caught our eye about this product?

Quality

Since this floodlight is made of aluminum material, it gave the impression of being made well. After continued testing and use, we could in fact, confirm that the frame and light were great quality.

Yet, we would like to point out that during installation we noticed the wire connectors weren’t of the best quality, and the wires themselves were a bit short. 

This was not a huge issue as it didn’t affect overall quality or performance, especially as some of us with a little electrical knowledge opted to DIY a solution for this. The length of the wires didn’t affect performance, but did make setup a little difficult.

Longevity

We were certainly pleased with the lifespan of this floodlight. Due to its design and hardware this light remained bright and useful for many months, and would do so for many more. 

The aluminum material is great for heat dissipation, which helps extend longevity of the light itself!

Effectiveness

You can’t ask for much from a light. If it illuminates then it does its job. However, we knew we had to look at the functionality of these lights critically.

Despite our scrutiny, this light held up well. We loved how well we were able to see through pitch black conditions from relatively far distances.

We were pleased with the quality of these units. The aluminum and polycarbonate material added to its durability. We did experience some quality control issues, such as a light panel not working, or parts missing.

However, customer care was both responsive and very helpful. Even when some of us had trouble with installation, CC was quick to assist us with any questions we had!

Longevity

Die cast aluminum and shock resistant polycarbonate material makes for great heat dissipation in this product. The overall quality of the light remained relatively the same throughout our use.

When put to the test this floodlight rated pretty standard for quality. There wasn’t anything spectacular about it, and the aluminum material was decent.

As for quality control, this product was lacking. We did have some issues with functionality for a few units. We’ll get into that a little more later on. Despite this small issue, when we received functioning units, this floodlight was decently made.

Longevity

This floodlight worked well for a long time. We did notice slight fading in a few units after an extended period of times (months of use), but nothing that majorly affected longevity. We still were able to confidently use this light with all functionality remaining.

Effectiveness

Unlike the previous lights on our list, we had more to look at when it came to effectiveness for this light. Of course the light functioned well, it was dark, then the light turned on, and it was bright. Not too many complaints to be had there.

However, we also wanted to ensure that the motion detecting aspect of this product functioned normally as well. Lutec boasts 180° motion sensing of about 20-65 feet away.

We can attest to this claim, as we noticed this light was diligent at picking up motions from short to medium distances away. Plus we were pleased to see that the light reached just as far, if not farther than said motion detecting.

We would like to note that a select few units we received did not function properly, (stuck in test mode, motion detecting didn’t reset), but these issues were promptly resolved!

Overall we were absolutely content with the effectiveness of this floodlight.

For quality, this was another product that ranked standardly. We were pleased with the durable aluminum and polycarbonate material. But, it was nothing to write home about. 

Although, given the price, we will say we did not have any complaints about the overall quality of the floodlight. We did run into some quality control issues with the photocells, but we’ll get into this a bit more later.

Longevity

One thing that caught our attention about this floodlight during research, was how people mentioned having this light for years. We thought there was no way this could be true.

While we haven’t had it for years, we feel confident in saying that it will hold up for a long while! The quality material, great for dissipation, helped this product maintain intensity and integrity.

Effectiveness

This floodlight proved to be pretty efficient at providing a worthy bright light. We were happy with the intensity of the light itself.

When it comes to functionality of the daylight detection we remained content as this product worked well. Soon as the sun went down we noticed this light was shining bright.

This was not the case for a small number of units though. We did receive a few units that did not function properly. We believe this was due to faulty or ineffective photocells responsible for detecting daylight.

With these affected units, we saw that the light would activate in broad daylight at times, or wouldn’t deactivate when the sun came up.

However, this simply was not the case. While it may not look as durable as some competitors, this unit fared well for quality. Although we found the solar power to be convenient, we do wish the battery was designed to be a bit more efficient.

Longevity

This solar light is substantially reliable. We found that it still shined bright even after months of use. However, we would like to talk about the battery again. While the light did still work well after months, this was with light use.

We did not typically use this for extended periods at a time. This was due to the fact that the battery life was not very long. For motion detecting, or brief moments of illumination this flood light worked well.

This is not a light we would recommend you use for lighting the backyard while you hangout. However, we think a slightly shorter battery life is worth energy conservation! Take a look at the benefits of solar energy.

Ring is a well known and established brand in the video security industry. We were pleased with the quality of the material of the floodlight. We can also say that the quality of the camera, video and audio resolution was standard with typical Ring cameras. 

We did not find any faults in the general make of the product, and were satisfied with quality overall.

Longevity

This floodlight is hardwired, so no need to worry about charging, or how long you use it.

Both the light and camera features of this floodlight continued to work proficiently even after nearly 4 months of use. We didn’t notice any significant decline in functionality of this product as time continued.

Effectiveness

When it comes to lighting this floodlight was great! It’s extremely bright and helps deter strangers, and even some small animals. 

We also love the camera feature. Resolution of video and quality of audio is on par with typical ring cameras. We loved how convenient the phone app was, and were surprised to learn this floodlight has Alexa compatible capabilities.

The quality of this light is something to be celebrated. We noticed it was hardwearing and quite reliable. We actually had an issue with mounting (user error), and the light fell from the car. 

After being dragged a bit at a quick enough speed, we are happy to report the light still worked. Minus some scuffs and scratches, there was no major damage to the frame or light itself!

Longevity

This light remained functional all throughout our rigorous testing. This light can definitely handle long periods of use. However, we used it as intended in short bursts while driving in extremely dark areas.

These floodlights are not meant for general lighting use, although it could withstand it. To maintain integrity and intensity however, we recommend using it for short periods.  

Effectiveness

We mainly used these lights at home or in rural areas, and found them to work wonders. A road that was previously pitch black, became clear as day with these floodlights.

As stated though, we do not recommend these lights to act as your headlights. This is due to the functionality of a floodlight: a synthetic BROAD beam. 

These lights are not directional, which can be an issue for you as the area it covers is not always the same, and can be blinding to other drivers.

The design and build of this floodlight from GLW was fairly standard. We found the unit to be mostly durable.

The colors were vibrant and vivid, and we loved how we could change to different shades of red, green, and blue. This also allowed for yellow, orange, pink, purple, and more!

This floodlight does have a silicone seal. But, we recommend checking it as the seal could have been applied better for some units. We didn’t have any issues with this, but err on the side of caution, and touch it up yourself if necessary.

Longevity

No words can describe how well GLW lights perform for extended periods of time. After months this floodlight was still shining bright. We did not notice any significant change in the intensity of the brightness, or vividness in the  different colors.

Effectiveness

As we have stated, this light performed quite well. The multifunction of accent lighting or a bright white light made this floodlight incredibly useful.

Equipped with an HD camera this bright floodlight performs well! We honestly did not have too many complaints about this floodlight, and appreciated the attentive customer care. 

We did notice some slight issues with the ai target locking, but nothing that impacted overall functionality.
